Phoenix Sky Harbor reaches record passenger numbers by 2024

PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has recorded the highest number of passengers in its history in 2024, with a total of 52 million 325 thousand 266 travelers, representing a 7.5% increase over 2023. This is the first time the terminal has surpassed the 50 million passenger mark in a single year.

On December 17, the airport celebrated this milestone with a special event to recognize the 50 millionth passenger, highlighting Sky Harbor’s importance as an economic engine for the state of Arizona.

During the year, the airport expanded and enhanced the passenger experience with the opening of new concessions such as Arizona Roadtrip, Fan Shop by PGA Tour, Coca-Cola Lounge and Phoenix Magazine Café and Market. In addition, technological advances were implemented such as the expansion of Waymo’s autonomous vehicle service in the terminals. In sustainability, the Green Business Partner program was launched to recognize green efforts within the airport.

Internationally, the airport welcomed new airlines such as Air France and Porter Airlines. Air France began nonstop flights to Paris, expanding service to year-round and increasing frequency to five flights per week in the summer. Porter Airlines established a new direct route to Toronto. In addition, American Airlines added a new connection to Tijuana and expanded routes to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, while Flair Airlines introduced flights to Edmonton and Vancouver. In March, Aeromexico will resume direct flights to Mexico City.

Sky Harbor also received several accolades in 2024, including the Employer of the Year award from the WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter and recognition as Airport of the Year by the Airport Minority Advisory Council. According to an updated report, the airport generates an estimated annual economic impact of $44.3 billion, cementing its position as Arizona’s leading economic driver.

To improve its facilities, Sky Harbor is in the process of constructing a new north-south taxiway and has plans to build a north concourse at Terminal 3. In addition, a security walkway is planned between Terminals 3 and 4, as well as the development of a new west terminal in the coming years.
