The mayor of Piedras Negras, Jacobo Rodríguez, held his first institutional meeting with the mayor of Eagle Pass, Aaron Valdez, accompanied by Councilwoman Jessica Ramón. The meeting aimed to lay the groundwork for a binational collaboration agenda focused on strategic issues for both border cities.
During the dialogue, held in Eagle Pass, various issues related to regional development were addressed, including trade, mobility, infrastructure, security, and migration management.
Both officials agreed on the need for ongoing coordination to address common challenges arising from their border location, as well as to take advantage of opportunities that benefit communities on both sides of the Rio Grande.
The meeting also served to reinforce the historic relationship between Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass, characterized by cooperation on economic, social, and cultural issues. The authorities expressed their interest in resuming and strengthening joint projects that promote the development of the region, especially in terms of commercial competitiveness and citizen well-being.
In addition to establishing a direct line of communication between local governments, the meeting seeks to lay the groundwork for future technical working groups, where concrete actions and follow-up mechanisms will be defined on priority issues for the border.
Both cities are part of an interdependent region where economic dynamism, security, and family and social ties are shared, which has led their authorities to work together on several occasions in negotiations with state and federal governments in both Mexico and the United States.
