With a US$3 million investment, the firm Maquilas y Servicios JC, in Nuevo Leon, has started a plant to produce “single wrap” paper, the type used in the steel industry for packaging, as this is the first factory of the type in Latin America. Jesus Chapa, Director of the firm, said that this project was developed under the imports substitution program of the steel company Ternium. Chapa considered that, with the plant’s current capacity, 40% of imports could be substituted, to later escalate to a 70% once the 12 new machines begin operations.
