JUAREZ, CHIH – The Universidad Tecnológica Paso del Norte (UTPN) participated in a meeting where agreements were drawn up for the development of specialized talent in semiconductors, joining the efforts being made at a national level in this area.
The rector of the UTPN, Ulises Martínez Contreras, indicated that the session was chaired by the head of the General Directorate of Technological and Polytechnic Universities (DGUTyP), Marlenne Johvana Mendoza González.
Martinez added that as a result of this meeting, it was agreed to share experiences and activities among the institutions that will be teaching the Semiconductor Engineering educational program starting in September.
The DGUTyP asked the UTPN to share information about the approach it had with Arizona State University (ASU) in 2022, in relation to the creation of an integrated circuits ecosystem for the region.
“During the visit, we talked about the semiconductor system, as well as several topics, such as raw materials and chemicals that have to be used in the production scheme, which are the companies in charge of design, those that manufacture them and those that have to do with distribution,” said the rector.
He commented that at an international level, 80 percent of chip or microchip production is concentrated in Asia, while 12 percent is produced in the United States and the remaining 8 percent in Europe, which is why he said that the intention is for Mexico to join this ecosystem.
Another of the agreements was that the representatives of the Universities that participate in this Semiconductor group will visit the specialized laboratory of the ASU in March, and it was also agreed to start with the definition of a laboratory for the Semiconductor career, which will be established in a standardized way in each institution.
