SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego International Airport (SAN) reached its busiest year ever in 2024 with a record 25.24 million passengers, surpassing the previous mark of 2019 with 25.18 million travelers.
Kimberly Becker, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, noted that this growth reflects a clear post-pandemic recovery. “We are grateful to our airline partners and the millions of passengers who choose SAN each year,” Becker said.
The increase is attributed to the arrival of Breeze and Porter Airlines, along with new nonstop flights to nine destinations, including Anchorage, Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Pittsburgh.
International travel also drove the increase, growing more than 10% thanks to British Airways’ expansion with daily flights to London. In 2025, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will inaugurate service to Amsterdam and Japan Airlines will offer direct flights to Tokyo.
“This is a real sign of recovery and growth.Every year since the pandemic, the number of travelers checked into our airport has increased,” Becker said,
Currently, 18 airlines operate at SAN with flights to 85 global destinations. SAN, one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world, generates $12 billion in regional economic activity. In addition, its $3.8 billion “New T1” modernization project will create up to 20,000 construction jobs.
