Sonora recorded a growth of almost 40% in its exports

SONORA – The state of Sonora registered a 39.76 percent growth in exports in the last three years, going from US$5.6 billion in 2021 to US$7.8 billion in 2024, according to official figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

According to the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, in the second quarter of 2024, the state grew 15.10% in exports, breaking a historical dynamic, and positioning itself as the leading state on the northern border in this economic activity.

“The state of Sonora stands out among the border entities with the highest export growth, the result of the promotional work we have done to position the state as an economic development platform for large industries,” Durazo expressed.

In addition, the state was positioned as the first local economy exporter, registering the highest growth coming from the automotive, aerospace and electronics industries, driven by the development platform of the so-called Sonora Plan for the supply of goods outside the country.

The subsectors with the highest participation in the entity are the manufacture of transportation equipment with US$2.6 billion, or 33.26 percent of total exports; the manufacture of computer, communication, measurement and other electronic equipment, components and accessories with US$1 billion, representing 13.56 percent; and agriculture with US$991 million, representing 12.64 percent.
