SONORA – In order to detonate the economy and attract more foreign investment to southern Sonora, state and municipal authorities as well as private initiative members and institutions, are working together to create the first cluster specialized in advanced industries (involving complex processes and research and development).
The director of Consejo de Promoción Económica of Obregon city, Francisco Obregón Elizondo, stated that in 6 weeks, they will make the official announcement of said cluster, in which five companies and two universities from the south of the state will participate, however, he stressed that there is an attempt to bring more companies and institutions.
“We already have a cluster model for southern Sonora. We are very close announce it and start operations. Advanced industries are our target, we don’t just limit to the aerospace sector, we also include the development of information technologies, medical equipment, pharmaceutical industry and advanced manufacturing,” Obregon Elizondo stressed.
He explained that this approach responds to the commitment to economic diversification, which seeks not to depend on a single activity.
