Sonora’s construction industry fell by 23%

SONORA – The construction industry in Sonora fell by 23% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, ranking 23rd nationally, revealed the president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Alfonso Reina Villegas.

He pointed out that private investment in infrastructure material is what has kept the industry afloat, since it currently represents 62% of the total resources applied and 38% are public resources.

“There is distorted growth because while in Oaxaca construction increased in the first quarter by 159.7%, in Tabasco by 135.6% and in Chiapas by 107.4%, in Sonora it fell by 23%,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that the federal government is investing more in the southeast of the country than in the rest of the states; therefore, the metropolitan and mining funds, which were used to lower resources in favor of infrastructure, have disappeared.
