A group of Taiwanese businessmen paid a courtesy visit to Ciudad Juarez, where they were received by the municipal president, Cruz Perez Cuellar. During the meeting, held in the José Reyes Estrada room of the Administrative Unit “Lic. Benito Juárez”, issues related to the activity of foreign companies in the region and their impact on the generation of employment were discussed.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of understanding the needs of Taiwanese maquiladoras when establishing themselves in the border, with the objective of facilitating administrative procedures and other necessary steps. Likewise, he emphasized the importance of the rapprochement between the business sector and the municipal government to strengthen the economic growth of the city, especially in the context of uncertainty generated by the tariffs imposed by the United States to Taiwanese companies.
During the meeting, Perez Cuellar reiterated the commitment of the municipal government to work together with investors to promote Ciudad Juarez as an attractive destination for foreign investment.
Among the companies participating in the meeting were Wistron, Foxconn, Pegatron, Inventec and Wiwynn. The mayor was accompanied by the general director of Economic Development, Tania Maldonado Garduño, and the director of the Municipal Institute of Research and Planning (IMIP), Roberto Mora Palacios.
In addition, at a press conference, the municipal president detailed the reasons for his upcoming trip to Taiwan, noting that he is responding to an invitation from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to participate in the Smart City Summit & Expo 2025.
The event will be held March 18-22 in the cities of Taipei and Kaohsiung and is considered the largest smart city trade show in Asia. It brings together technology companies from different parts of the world.
The Mayor informed that during his participation in the forum he will present initiatives related to technology and security, highlighting that, according to official data, Ciudad Juarez is the municipality with the highest investment in security technology in Mexico.
He will be accompanied on the trip by the director of IMIP, Roberto Mora; Raúl Monárrez, from the IT area of the Municipality; and Octavio Fuentes, who will attend as an advisor and representative of the business sector.
