TEXAS – Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Lone Star College more than US$1.3 million in Skills Development Fund (SDF) grants.
These grants will enable Lone Star College to provide customized training to more than 650 employees of four Houston companies – AmeriTex Machine & Fabrication, McCarthy Building Companies Inc, Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital and Tenaris. The training will focus on relevant industry areas such as construction, energy, healthcare and machining.
“As the Texas economy continues to grow, so does the need to invest in our workforce through skills development programs,” said Governor Abbott. “These SDF grants to Lone Star College will help equip workers in the greater Houston area with the training they need to continue to thrive and advance in high-demand careers.”
SDF is the state’s workforce training grant program that helps businesses upskill their new or existing workforce. In partnership with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC collaborates to provide customized and innovative training to Texas businesses of all sizes.
“The Skills Development Fund is important to the Texas economy because it supports local, market-driven prioritization of workforce and business needs,” said Bryan Daniel, TWC President. “Community partners like Lone Star College excel at providing programs that retrain and upskill employees to fill critical, in-demand jobs.”
