Texas boosts semiconductor industry

KILLEEN, TX – Governor Greg Abbott announced the extension of the second Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) grant in the amount of US$2.4 million to Dongjin Semichem Texas, Inc.(DST). This investment will enable the expansion of its specialty chemicals and materials facility in Killeen, which will generate 24 new jobs and a capital investment in excess of US$110 million.

“Texas is where the chip was born and where the future of the semiconductor industry is being built,” said Governor Abbott. “Thanks to Dongjin Semichem’s investment, production of ultra-high purity photoresist thinners will be made in Texas for the first time, strengthening the U.S. semiconductor supply chain.”

For his part, Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC) Executive Committee Chairman Dr. David Daniel highlighted the impact of this investment. “DST’s growing presence in Killeen reinforces Texas’ leadership in the semiconductor industry and generates good-paying jobs, as well as securing a critical domestic supply chain.”

DST, a subsidiary of Dongjin USA Inc, specializes in the production of photoresist thinners, key materials in the manufacture of semiconductor chips used in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, automotive and defense. The plant will feature six buildings dedicated to manufacturing, warehousing, analysis, waste treatment and security, cementing Texas as a key player in the industry.

Dr. Chun Hyuk Lee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Dongjin Semichem Co., Ltd. expressed his appreciation for the grant. “This funding will enable DST to advance the production of materials essential for advanced semiconductor photolithography. With more than three decades of experience, Dongjin is committed to driving industry growth in Central Texas.”

The Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF), created in 2023 with the enactment of the Texas CHIPS Act, seeks to solidify the state’s leadership in semiconductor research and manufacturing. Under the administration of the Texas CHIPS Office, this initiative encourages investment in the sector and strengthens Texas’ competitiveness in the global technology industry.

The Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) is a new incentive program to encourage Texas’ continued leadership in semiconductor research, design and manufacturing.
