TIJUANA – According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), for the period of January through August 2019, Tijuana’s maquiladora industry drives the growth of exports from Baja California.
In this sense, Tijuana concentrated 76.6% of the total exports of the entity’s industry, registering a growth of 12.8% at an annual rate, which means that the city exported more than US$6.3 billion.
It is worth mentioning that Tijuana is making a difference due to the strong integration of the coastal zone with its San Diego neighbors, as it continues to strengthen its binational business space.
On the other hand, Mexicali occupies the second participation position with 16%, exporting US$1.3 billion in eight months, with an annual increase of 5.5%.
As far as for Ensenada and Tecate, the municipalities participate with 4% and 3.4%, respectively, achieving exports of US$328 million and US$276 million, respectively.
