SAMALAYUCA – Around 20 tons of zucchini have been discarded by farmers in the town of Samalayuca, Ciudad Juárez, due to the lack of places to sell the product and high packaging costs.
Javier Meléndez, sectional president of the entity, says that the producers of zucchini and other vegetables have had problems due to the lack of placement in the market, so they have sought other ways to market the crop.
According to Meléndez, during the first months of harvest, many farmers chose to cut the zucchini and discard it, so it ended up not entering the selection process. It should be noted that about 20 tons of zucchini have been discarded.
“We have a large production of this product; we are also producing cucumber, red, and green tomatoes, but we need to place them,” he said.
Meléndez also commented that his biggest buyers came from the state of Sonora, but this season there has been no purchase reports of the vegetable in this area.
At the moment, the production of zucchini is destined for the capital of Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, and El Paso, Texas.
