TUCSON, AZ – TuSimple, one of the world’s most advanced developers of autonomous driving technologies, celebrated the opening of its expanded R&D and operations in Tucson, Arizona.
The company’s Tucson campus will house the company’s growing workforce and multiple state-of-the-art laboratories dedicated to developing and testing advances in electrical engineering, sensor development and mechanical engineering.
Among other expansions, the facility will also house a new training lab for test engineers.
“Since first arriving in Arizona in 2017, our Tucson facility has been a crucial arm of TuSimple’s operations. Our world-class team in Tucson has developed and strengthened industry-leading technology that has made significant progress in advancing safe and reliable autonomous transportation – including the world’s first commercial truck races on public roads without a driver on board,” said Xiaodi Hou, co-founder and CEO of TuSimple.
Hou said that by expanding operations in Tucson with new high-tech labs and more capacity, the company is one step closer to commercializing autonomous trucking and working toward a safer, more environmentally sustainable transportation future.
“Arizona is the automated vehicle capital of the world, and TuSimple helped drive this innovation in our state,” said Governor Doug Ducey. “This expansion brings hundreds of high-paying, high-tech jobs to southern Arizona and proves once again that Arizona is the best place in the world to develop and scale advanced mobility technology.”
TuSimple develops autonomous driving technologies designed specifically for heavy trucks to solve the industry’s most pressing challenges and make freight transportation safer, more efficient and sustainable.
The company currently conducts autonomous freight transportation in Arizona on a daily basis in collaboration with its business partners.
