MATAMOROS – As a result of the strikes that took place in recent days in the maquiladora industry in Matamoros, some people have begun to offer some goods outside the law, said the director of Concentración Social, Hugo Gutiérrez.
Mr. Gutiérrez noted that currently in this border city there are at least 3,000 informal businesses, most generated in these days by the lack of employment.
“We are beginning a difficult time economically speaking, that’s why people were left without jobs, now they are selling some belongings that no longer use or simply buy and resell,” said the director.
He stressed that currently the municipal administration has control of at least 3,000 traders, but there may be an equal number in terms of non-official commerce, all originated by the economic conditions that have been taking place in Matamoros.
