NUEVO LEON – In order to promote educational actions in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with a gender perspective and an inclusive environment, the Government of Nuevo Leon achieved an alliance with UNICEF Mexico to launch the STEM Network.
The Secretary of Education of Nuevo Leon, Sofialeticia Morales Garza explained that this initiative brings together institutions from the education, business, government and civil society sectors, who will develop a common agenda to promote the participation and inclusion of girls and adolescents from the Basic and High School levels in STEM.
“The STEM Network in Nuevo León is a collaborative model that aspires to transform the educational system to make it equitable and responsive to the demands of modern society; with this, the state will consolidate itself as an educational reference and a STEM Territory in Mexico,” said Morales.
During the first meeting of the STEM Network, where Astrid Hollander, Chief of Education of UNICEF Mexico and Gloria Morales, Secretary of Administration of Nuevo Leon, were present, some of the actions contemplated were presented, such as the realization of the first STEM Olympiad in that state in 2025.
In addition, it was reported that the goal is to benefit girls and young people in the development of key competencies for the 21st Century, such as critical thinking, innovation and problem solving, fundamental for the digital and technological transformation of the state.
Among the participants are UNICEF Mexico, UDEM, TEC Monterrey, UANL, URRE, IBERO, U.S. Consulate in Monterrey, the Foundations: Frisa, Robotix, Deacero, Lego, Televisa, Soriana, BBVA, HSBC, Banorte, HEB; Nuevo León 4.0, Consejo Nuevo León, Totalplay, I2T2, Pauta, LIGA ACE SPORTS, Siemens Stiftung, Horno 3, Papalote Museo del Niño, among many more.
