MCALLEN – The country’s citrus industry, including the Rio Grande Valley, will receive a significant injection of federal funds for its own protection and boost.

The funds, which total more than US$130 million, are part of the provisions obtained through a package of the expenditure bill for fiscal year 2019, which includes credits for agriculture.

“Our citrus growers contribute greatly to the economy of the Rio Grande Valley, and they deserve our help due to threats to their vitality,” said Congressman Henry Cuellar.

By assigning funds in order to help preserve citrus at Río Grande Valley and surrounding areas, producers in Congressman Cuellar’s district will be able to preserve the value of their crops and maintain industry prices for the consumer.
