UTCJ Launches First University LED Lamp Production Line in Ciudad Juárez

The Technological University of Ciudad Juárez (UTCJ) has inaugurated a new LED lamp production line within its Surface Mount Technology (SMT) laboratory, established through a collaboration with the firm NETS Mx.

This initiative marks the first operational production line of its kind at the university and positions the UTCJ as one of the few academic institutions in the region equipped to manufacture fully functional electronic devices.

The project actively involves students from Industrial Processes and Mechatronics programs, who contributed to the design and assembly of the first LED lamp prototype developed entirely in-house. The resulting device was engineered for versatile indoor and outdoor applications.

According to NETS Mx, the production line will enable the university to manufacture lights, develop new models, and provide specialized training in electronics processes and SMT manufacturing. The company emphasized that these technical skills are increasingly critical for the local industry, which is dominated by electronic manufacturing and has a high demand for qualified personnel.

UTCJ authorities state that this new capability signals a significant shift in its educational model, transitioning from instruction based on simulated practice to the creation of real-world products. They also highlighted that the SMT line will allow students to earn certifications based on standards used in the manufacturing sector, thereby reducing the time and resources companies must invest in training new hires.

Specialists involved in the project noted that approximately 750 SMT lines are currently in operation within companies in Ciudad Juárez. This figure underscores a significant opportunity for UTCJ students to gain hands-on experience directly aligned with the city’s key industrial processes.

Both UTCJ and NETS Mx anticipate that the launch of this production line will pave the way for new joint technological initiatives focused on prototype development and the training of specialized talent.
