The University of Texas System Board of Regents has approved a $108 million investment for the construction of a new student housing complex at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The decision addresses the sustained increase in demand for on-campus housing, with university residences having operated at full capacity for the past four consecutive years.
The new complex will be a four-story, co-educational residence hall designed for first-year students, offering 456 beds in single and double occupancy rooms. The facility will feature a range of amenities, including a gym, common areas, a study hall, and a large dining hall with an integrated kitchen.
This expansion is a direct response to significant growth in housing demand. According to university data, housing applications have surged by more than 15% over the last two years. Furthermore, the proportion of students returning to live on campus is projected to rise from 50% in the fall of 2024 to 60% by the fall of 2025.
Scheduled to open in 2028, the new residence hall will be situated on the north side of Kidd Field. Upon its completion, UTEP’s total on-campus housing capacity will increase to 1,500 beds.
The project will be financed through the Texas University System’s Revenue Financing System. The university will repay the funds using the revenue generated from the operation of the new residence hall.
