TEXAS – After years of preparation, the eBridge Center now has a permanent home in downtown Brownsville, in the former La Casa del Nylon at 1304 E. Adams St, according to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
The UTRGV Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC) celebrated the groundbreaking of the new location on March 10. Construction began in the summer of 2021, and the ECC along with Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation partners moved in last month.
The eBridge Center was created in partnership with the City of Brownsville, UTRGV, the Lower Rio Grande Valley Economic Development Council, and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support economic development in South Texas with a focus on scalable businesses.
Janna Arney, UTRGV executive vice president and provost, said the creation of the facility was a labor of love between the university and the BCIC, with support from the city, the EDA and the development council.
The goal of the eBridge is to serve as a “business bridge” for startups and existing businesses to grow and market their services or products on a larger scale. The project will foster the next stage of entrepreneurs, preparing them with the skills and resources they need to gain visibility, access capital, and create jobs and business growth.
There are currently 15 eBridge incubation members who have access to the center’s co-working spaces, conference rooms, training rooms and resources. The idea is to foster networking and collaboration to create synergies among entrepreneurs.
