TEXAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was ranked sixth best among public and private universities in the United States in offering students high economic opportunity and mobility.
According to the most recent ranking in an Economic Mobility Index 2023 (EMI) report by Third Way, a national nonprofit think tank, UTRGV earned an EMI of 57.2 percent and was the only University of Texas System school ranked in the top ten.
The report included 1,409 U.S. higher education institutions. In addition, based on fall 2022 enrollment figures, UTRGV ranked number one both nationally and in Texas in EMI among institutions with more than 30,000 students.
For the fourth consecutive year, UTRGV recorded first-day enrollment of more than 32 thousand students for fall 2023 on Monday.
Introduced in 2022, the EMI is different from traditional rankings in that it measures institutional value and highlights institutions that are fulfilling higher education’s purpose of promoting the economic mobility of its students.
“We are easily the largest university among the schools ranked in the Top 10, and that says a lot about what we’ve been able to accomplish. It’s one thing to do it on a small scale, but to do it on our scale reflects our commitment to student success and to transforming the Rio Grande Valley.” UTRGV is proud to be the Valley’s institution of higher education,” said UTRGV President Guy Bailey.
