TSMC Weighs Texas Chipmaking Investment

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is evaluating a potential investment in Texas to expand its semiconductor manufacturing operations in the United States, according to sources cited by Reuters. The project would complement the company’s US$265 billion investment commitment in Arizona.

The potential Texas expansion remains under evaluation, and TSMC has not finalized its plans. The investment amount, construction timeline, and scope of the project have not been disclosed.

According to reports, the company is considering establishing another major semiconductor manufacturing hub that could include multiple fabrication plants. Dallas has emerged as a potential location, although the company has not officially confirmed the site.

TSMC increased its planned investment in Arizona by US$100 billion in July 2026, bringing its total commitment to US$265 billion. The expansion is expected to include additional semiconductor fabrication plants, advanced packaging facilities, and a research and development center.

Once completed, TSMC’s planned Arizona operations are expected to comprise 12 fabrication and advanced packaging facilities, alongside a dedicated research and development center.

The potential Texas investment comes amid growing demand for advanced chips used in artificial intelligence applications and increasing efforts to expand semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the United States. Major technology companies rely on TSMC to manufacture processors for data centers, smartphones, and other electronic devices.

The company has continued to expand its international manufacturing footprint as it seeks to meet customer demand and strengthen its presence in key markets. However, any additional investment in Texas will depend on the company’s final decisions, and TSMC has not confirmed whether the project will move forward.
