El Paso Community College (EPCC) was awarded an $85,521 grant Thursday from the Texas Workforce Commission’s Skills Development Fund (SDF). The funds will be used for a technical training program for employees of Bain Enterprises, a local utility, traffic control and custom signage equipment manufacturer.
The announcement was made at EPCC’s Administrative Services Center in the presence of State Commissioner Alberto Treviño III, the Commission’s labor representative. Also in attendance were executives from Bain Enterprises and EPCC academic authorities.
The grant will provide more than 980 hours of training to 102 new and current employees in areas such as surveying, blueprint reading, drone operation, construction mathematics and business communication. The funds will cover tuition, materials, content development, books, and administrative expenses.
This is the first agreement between EPCC and Bain Enterprises supported by the Skills Development Fund. According to company CEO Scott Bain, this is the first construction company in El Paso to access this type of support. Since 2019, EPCC has received $2.5 million in funding through 11 grants from this state fund, earmarked for job training programs that seek to strengthen human capital and respond to industry needs in the border region.
