LAS CRUCES, NM – The City of Las Cruces is seeking interested residents to join the Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority (MVPHA) Commission, an independent body charged with managing issues related to affordable housing and associated services in the City of Las Cruces and unincorporated areas of Doña Ana County.
The Commission, comprised of five volunteer members, has primary responsibilities to approve annual budgets, review federally mandated planning documents, establish public housing policy, evaluate tax credit developments, and conduct the annual performance evaluation of the Housing Authority’s executive director.
To apply, applicants must reside within the City of Las Cruces. Positions have a staggered five-year term.
The Commission is structured so that two commissioners are appointed by the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners, two by the Mayor of Las Cruces and one, the Resident Commissioner, is appointed jointly by the Mayor and the County Commission.
Commission meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, at 4:30 p.m., at the offices of the Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority, located at 926 S. San Pedro Street, Las Cruces. Each session is approximately 90 minutes in length.
The City Council noted that this is a unique opportunity to collaborate with an agency that directly impacts the quality of life in the community through the promotion and development of affordable housing and related services.
