Tampico became an international meeting point for climate dialogue with the Mexico Carbon Forum 2025, a two-day event that brought together specialists, businesspeople, academics, and investors from more than 25 countries. The fifth edition of the forum gathered 170 exhibitors and nearly 3,000 attendees, who discussed strategies for addressing climate change and the development of carbon markets.
The meeting sought to create a space for analysis of the opportunities and challenges presented by green financing mechanisms, as well as to strengthen cooperation between different sectors and countries. Participants addressed issues related to environmental innovation, transparency in carbon markets, and the need to promote sustainable projects on a global scale.
The MÉXICO2 platform, together with representatives from the financial, academic, and environmental sectors, played an active role in the discussion panels. The organizers noted that the diversity of perspectives enriched the debate and contributed to the consolidation of a reliable carbon market in Mexico and the region.
The forum included keynote speeches, thematic panels, and networking opportunities that facilitated the exchange of experiences. Among the most frequently mentioned topics were the urgency of accelerating the transition to clean energy, the importance of certifying emission reduction projects, and the need to create more agile mechanisms for international cooperation.
State authorities were present at the opening ceremony, including Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya and the Secretary of Urban Development and Environment, Karina Lizeth Saldívar Lartigue. The official noted that the forum represented an opportunity for Tamaulipas to showcase progress on its sustainability agenda, while strengthening collaboration with national and international actors.
In recent years, the Mexico Carbon Forum has been considered one of the most important venues in Latin America for discussing policies and practices related to emissions trading and climate finance. Holding it in Tampico put the city on the map of specialized forums that seek to address the effects of global warming through market mechanisms.
At the close of the meeting, it was announced that the 2026 edition of the Mexico Carbon Forum will be held in Aguascalientes, where it is hoped to continue the work begun in Tamaulipas and expand participation to new sectors linked to energy transition and sustainable development.
