The limit of sugar exports increases

CIUDAD JUAREZ – The Ministry of Economy (SE) announced that Mexico will be able to export 709 million tons of sugar to the United States during the sugar cycle of October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2020.

In September, the agency reported that the maximum quota of sugar that the country could send to the United States in the same period was of 439,315 metric tons of crude value, but this has already increased.

The agency clarified that the quota allowed is calculated in July of each year, but regular adjustments are then made in September, December, and March of each sugar cycle.

Prior permission for the export of sugar derived from cane or beet, as well as the establishment of a maximum quota for shipment to the United States, is subject to the Sugar Suspension Agreement.

According to the sugar balance prepared by the National Committee for Sustainable Development of Sugar Cane (Conadesuca), as of September of this year, a total supply of 7 million tons of sugar and a national consumption of 4 million tons were calculated.
